Denison Algebra

I recently learned about an Algebra course called Denison Algebra which offers courses teaching Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry. After reading through countless reviews and reading through their website, I decided to have my son try this curriculum as I wasn't sure if he was really understanding Algebra through Power Homeschool.

My son has been using this curriculum now for several weeks. I really like this math course. It's similar to Teaching Textbooks in that they offer a student's book, online videos of about 15 to 20 minutes in length in which you watch the instructor teach the math concept and work through sample problems, and a test/solutions book.

The student is encouraged to use the book alongside the videos and write notes in the book instead of in a notebook. (The author states, "writing on separate paper makes math more difficult to learn.") Every problem has both written and video solutions.

Each chapter's worksheet has about 23 questions; tests consist of about 15 questions. Students are to correct any wrong answers on their worksheets. Each chapter offers 2 tests.

The author also put together a BHAC (Big Hairy Algebra Concepts) sheet that is a summary sheet of all of the concepts learned in the course which students can have with them while taking their tests or doing their worksheets. It's basically a cheat sheet intended to be used by students to help remind them of skills previously taught. The more they see it, the better the chance of it moving into their long-term memory.

Note: They also offer Success Algebra 1 and 2 and in January, 2022, Success Geometry - these are "designed for students with extra learning challenges that make processing math difficult."

Wow, Clara! Thank you for offering this detailed review/recommendation! I will have to add this to my Homeschooling Curriculum Idea notebook for the future with my boys. This is great information! šŸ˜
