5000 Words Writing Club for High School Students

I’m forwarding this information for those who may be interested. Please email Kelly Griffiths at kellylynngriffiths@gmail.com if interested.

Hi friends!

If you're receiving this email, you've probably taken a 5000 Words class in the past. Some of you expressed interest in continuing. Below is what I have in mind for 2024/25.

For high school students: a once-a-month writing club with a workshop focus. I'm calling it 5000 Words to keep things simple, but we all know you'll write more than 5000 words haha!

I booked the small conference room at the Berea Library for the last Tuesday of the month (starting in September) from 9:15 - 10:30 AM. We'll have writing prompts, a grammar component, and workshops. The out-of-class work will be to finish the writing assignments and comment on your peers (reading submissions of less than 3000 words).

A $50 curriculum fee will reserve a place in the club for the entire 2024/25 school year. I will provide an atmosphere where students can create and share their ideas and be challenged to think critically about the process of writing.

For families: The Berea Library is next to Coe Lake which has a wonderful playground and new treehouse as well as trails to walk and a pond for fishing. The metroparks entrance is across the street.

Here are the dates (last Tuesdays of the month):

September 24

October 28

November 26

OFF DECEMBER - Merry Christmas!

January 28 (workshop)

February 25 (workshop)

March 25 (workshop)

April 22 - (workshop) Last class*

Email me if you would like to sign up or have more questions. The class will fill on a first come, first served basis, up to 11 students.

I take Venmo, Paypal, or a personal check.

Best,

Kelly Griffiths
