( EDIT: FULL) Field Trip to Volunteer at Bright Star Books 10/17/25
Hello everyone!
I have set up a volunteer opportunity for us at Bright Star Books on October 17th from 1:00-3:00 located at 1357 Home Ave., Akron.
They are a small non-profit whose main goal is to get books into the hands of kids who likely wouldn't have them otherwise. They do this with partnerships with Summit County WIC and Akron Public Schools, as well as many other organizations.
The main way they utilize groups such as ours would be packing the bags of books that go out at Summit County WIC. This entails going through all of the books and checking them to make sure they are in good condition (as most of their books are gently used) and then placing a sticker on each book and bagging them up with fliers. All ages are welcome to come, even if too little to help.

This is a great way to get your younger children involved volunteer work since it's easy, repetitive work.
I also volunteered us for a book drive to help bring in more books for the organization! They ask that on the day of our field trip, we please bring in any unwanted, gently used books for ages 0-5th grade. I know I always have a million books to get rid of. Of course, if you don't have any to pass along, it is not required.
If you are unable or uninterested in attending but would still like to help in some way, I will gladly accept books from you at the picnic this Friday!
The only downside to this trip is that they are very limited in the number of people they can accommodate. We are limited to 15 people, however if some of the children are too young to help, we are welcome to bump up that number to 20. Because of this, I ask that you please commit to coming only if you are for sure able to attend since we are so limited in capacity. If you would like to come, please comment how many of you will be attending, as well as the ages of your children. My girls and I count for 3, so we have room for 12-17 more attendees.
Thank you!

Thanks SO much again @Kayleigh Deeks for setting this up! It was so much fun for the kids and for us adults too 😆
